Have you heard of them?  Would you like to know more about these pests and other pests found in the United States?

Go to dev.pestworldforkids.org to learn more...it is a neat site with lots of useful information and some fun games to play, too.

We read Weekly Reader magazine today in reading class...we were unable to finish reading all of it.  You can check out www.weeklyreader.com to read additional articles.

One interesting article we read was about the Titanic.  We wanted to learn more and our MacBooks helped us.  We learned what an eight course meal consisted of and what eight course meal was served on the Titanic.  We found an interesting website and had fun "exploring"the ship at www.tinyurl.com/explore-titanic

Scholastic Book Orders

I will send home Scholastic Book Orders throughout the school year.  Scholastic has many great books for students to enjoy at a reasonable price.  I send home book orders but students are in no way obligated to purchase books.  I order books for our classroom library through Scholastic and offer my students a chance to purchase books from Scholastic if they choose.

Your child received a book order today in class.  If you would like to place an order, please complete the order form with your child's name on it and return it to school by September 10th.  You may pay with cash or check (please make checks out to Scholastic Books).  Thanks!

Six Flags Read to Succeed

Information about the Read to Succeed program sponsored by Six Flags was sent home today. It encourages children in grades K-6 to read for fun. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading before the school's deadline is eligible for a free admission ticket valid at participating Six Flags theme parks.

Review the reading log that your child brought home. Your child should use this sheet to record what and how long he/she reads.

Your child must complete six hours, or 360 minutes of recreational reading. Please initial each entry and then sign the reading log to show that the six hours of reading has been completed.

Your child can read books, magazine, newspapers, or comic books. What doesn't count is any reading your child must do for homework or a class assignment.

Please return the completed reading log with a parent/guardian signature to school by Tuesday, February 16, 2010.

This program is optional.
