We're Going on a Field Trip!

The fourth, fifth, and sixth grades are taking a field trip to Lake Jacksonville on Thursday, October 2nd. We will be attending a program sponsored by University of Illinois Extension. We will have the opportunity to participate in 8-10 interactive sessions on a variety of natural resource topics including forestry, wildlife, stream formation, recycling, and agriculture.

The cost for the field trip is $1.50. We are asking that each student bring his/her money and signed permission slip to school no later than September 26th. Also, each child will need to bring a sack lunch, which should include a drink in a nonbreakable container. We will be outside so please wear appropriate clothes and shoes.

Wow!

It was so nice to see so many parents and students at our Open House on Wednesday. I hope that if you didn't have a chance to stop by our room on Wednesday that you will come by sometime this school year...I look forward to meeting you! The biggest surprise of the night came from Halie. She walked in the room and looked different. It took me a moment but then I realized that her hair was shorter - much shorter! Halie had ten inches of her hair cut off and donated it to Locks of Love. Wow! What a generous girl! Don't forget to check our the North Greene website. On the opening page is a picture of three students from my homeroom...Cody, Ashley, and Shawnee.

President Cleveland, Where Are You?

No...he isn't lost, that was the title of the fictional short story we have been reading and discussing this week during class. The main character in our story is collecting President trading cards. He is trying to collect the whole series of President cards and the only one missing is the elusive President Cleveland. When did this story take place? What is the conflict? Ask you child if they would explain the plot and the resolution of the story. We have enjoyed this story and learning about the Presidents and the Great Depression.

Tonight is Open House at NGMS...I hope to see you tonight!

The Beginning

It's hard to believe that another school year has begun...where did the summer go? We are off to a great start in sixth grade. We have a lot of great students in sixth grade this year. We are starting the year reading fictional short stories. We are also preparing for the ISAT by reviewing setting, plot, characterization, and theme.
