Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate!

...that's the theme of this year's basket for the NGMSPO basket raffle fundraiser. We are asking that each student donate one item to help fill our basket. Some suggestions for the basket include: candy bars, chocolate cake mix, brownie mix, hot chocolate, chocolate scented candles, chocolate cookbook, or anything else chocolate.

Please send the item to school by Monday, November 30th. The baskets will be on display from December 1st-17th, with the drawing being on the 17th.

Veterans Day

Just a reminder...no school on Wednesday, November 11th in honor of all of those that have served in the armed forces. Do you know why Veterans Day is November 11th? On November 11, 1928 at 11:00 a.m., World War 1 ended. Veterans Day... the eleventh day on the eleventh month...one of the easiest holidays to remember.

Enjoy your day off from school, but take time to think of the many veterans that have made our country what it is.

Raging Readers

Raging Readers information was sent home today. The program runs from November 2-December 11th. Sixth graders can earn a ticket to Raging Rivers by reading 300 pages and completing the form. Completed forms must be turned by December 11th. Happy reading!

If you are interested in ordering from the book order, please return the book order form and money to school by Tuesday, November 10th. Please make checks payable to "Scholastic Book Clubs".

We will have a vocabulary quiz in reading on Friday, November 6th. The words are from our new story, "Matthew Henson at the Top of the World". The vocabulary words are: validate, apt, proposition, ardent, surveyor, menial, resentful, tyranny, deprivation, stamina. The definitions can be found in the literature book on pages 102-110.

The spelling words for the week of November 2nd are: buyer, instant, quietly, plight, describe, acquire, typhoon, twice, lithe, scientific, blind, decipher, distinct, xylophone, glimpse, pliable, slight, friction, prediction, and family. The spelling test will be on Friday, November 6th.

We had a great Halloween party...thanks to everyone that donated items for our party. We really appreciated it!
