Six Flags Read to Succeed

Information about the Read to Succeed program sponsored by Six Flags was sent home today. It encourages children in grades K-6 to read for fun. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading before the school's deadline is eligible for a free admission ticket valid at participating Six Flags theme parks.

Review the reading log that your child brought home. Your child should use this sheet to record what and how long he/she reads.

Your child must complete six hours, or 360 minutes of recreational reading. Please initial each entry and then sign the reading log to show that the six hours of reading has been completed.

Your child can read books, magazine, newspapers, or comic books. What doesn't count is any reading your child must do for homework or a class assignment.

Please return the completed reading log with a parent/guardian signature to school by Tuesday, February 16, 2010.

This program is optional.

Music Christmas Program

Just a reminder...the Christmas Program is Wednesday, December 16th at 7:15. Students need to be at the school by 7:00 so that we can get everyone in line and ready to go. It would be appreciated if students dress up for the concert. It doesn't have to be anything too fancy, basically if the students could avoid jeans, our music teacher would be thrilled. The program will be held in the gym at NGMS.

Students...if you are participating in the concert, you may bring a drink(soda, water, juice, sports drink,etc.) to school on Thursday. Your teacher will have a "thank you for making the effort to attend and participate in the concert" afternoon snack.

Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate!

...that's the theme of this year's basket for the NGMSPO basket raffle fundraiser. We are asking that each student donate one item to help fill our basket. Some suggestions for the basket include: candy bars, chocolate cake mix, brownie mix, hot chocolate, chocolate scented candles, chocolate cookbook, or anything else chocolate.

Please send the item to school by Monday, November 30th. The baskets will be on display from December 1st-17th, with the drawing being on the 17th.

Veterans Day

Just a reminder...no school on Wednesday, November 11th in honor of all of those that have served in the armed forces. Do you know why Veterans Day is November 11th? On November 11, 1928 at 11:00 a.m., World War 1 ended. Veterans Day... the eleventh day on the eleventh month...one of the easiest holidays to remember.

Enjoy your day off from school, but take time to think of the many veterans that have made our country what it is.
