A Visit from Clyde

We had the opportunity to have a real coonhound visit our class. I had hoped to find a redbone coonhound but it seems that they are scarce in our area. Mr. Knox found Clyde, a Walker coonhound. Terry Ross brought in his dog and told us a little about him. Clyde was just like the dogs that won the tournament before Old Dan and Little Ann did in "Where the Red Fern Grows." We had looked at different breeds of coonhounds on the Internet, but it was much better to see one in person.

We've been reading...

"Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls and have been enjoying every minute of it. After working so hard to prepare for ISAT, it is just wonderful to read this novel every day. I think if you were to ask the kids, it doesn't really seem like work. It is a such a powerful story of friendship, faith, and loyalty. If you haven't read this book, you should definitely take the time to read it- you won't be disappointed.

Do you know anyone with redbone coonhound dogs ? I would love to get in contact with someone who has this breed. Old Dan and Little Ann from the novel are redbone coonhounds and I would like the kids to see what they look like. Please let me know...Thanks!
